In Belgium, BSH Home Appliances s.a. implemented a new renting business model, the Papillon project, to help low-income families reduce costs with resource-efficient home appliances. Together with the social enterprise SAAMO West-Vlaanderen, BSH aims at replacing outdated home appliances with new, efficient ones.
Consumers can choose from a total of seven freestanding appliances from the Bosch brand: a washing machine, a tumble dryer, a washer-dryer, two fridges, one freezer, and a dishwasher. These appliances are rented for a period of ten years for a monthly amount of €9 to families which are selected by SAAMO. All services are included in this fee.
At the end of the rental period, BSH picks up the appliance in order to reuse or recycle the appliances and materials.
